Helga was the daughter of Jón Magnússon and Stefanía Jónsdóttir in Argyle, Manitoba who came west in 1876. Friðrik was the son of Þórður Guðjohnsen, storekeeper in Húsavík and Helga Friðrika Vigfúsdóttir from Ytri-Tungu at Tjörnes. He was ten days old when he was taken in as a foster child by Reverend Jón Bjarnason and Lára Guðjohnsen. Þórður came west with them to Winnipeg in 1884. Helga and Friðrik lived their lives in Winnipeg, he worked in retail and later sold life insurance.
