Ingibjörg was the daughter of Vilhjálmur Sigurgeirsson and Kristín Þóra Helgadóttir, early settlers in Mikley. Einar Páll grew up in the countryside in East Iceland, went to graduate school in the Reykjavík School of Education in 1902-1905. Worked for the bailiff in Reykjavík 1905-1913, that year he went to Winnipeg, Manitoba and lived there the rest of his life. Ingibjörg was 12 years old when her mother died, and she devoted herself to household chores for her father. Still, she managed to get an education.
