Ingjaldur came to the West in 1888 with his mother, Þóra Kristófersdóttir, and siblings. He father, Ingjaldur, came west the year before and waited for the family in Winnipeg. There Ingjaldur learned gold smithing and watch repair, settled in Selkirk but then returned to Winnipeg in 1891. Guðmundína came to Winnipeg in 1887 with her mother, Helga Pálsdóttir.
