Jakob came to the West in 1910 and was first in Winnipeg. He spent a little over a year in Kandahar, Saskatchewan, but returned to Winnipeg in 1912 and worked in a store until 1925. He was an employee of the Canadian National Railway (C.N.R.) in the years 1927 – 1943. That year he started working for the Government of Canada in Winnipeg. He was always active in the community affairs of his countrymen Manitoba.
