Jón came to the West in 1881 and lived in Winnipeg the first three years. The road led him west to Seattle, Washington where he lived until he settled in Point Roberts in 1893. There he took land, nearly all of it covered with forest. He cleared it and built a good house, which was long considered one of the finest on the peninsula.
