Jón Björnsson was born in Húnavatnssýsla in 1886. He took the last name Salomon in the west.
Spouse: Sigríður Sigurlaug Þorsteinsdóttir b. September 17, 1899. She had the name Sigurlaug Lindal in the west.

Jón was the son of Björn Stefánsson and Guðrún Andrésdóttir who came west in 1887. They settled in Winnipeg where Björn died after a few years. Guðrún moved west with her children to Seattle, where she married Sigfús Jónasson Salomon. Jón joined the US Navy at the age of 16 and served for three years. Sigurlaug was the daughter of Þorsteinn Þorsteinsson Líndal and Sigríður Bjarnadóttir. They lived first in N. Dakota, then in the Þingvalla settlement in Saskatchewan, then Selkirk, Manitoba and finally west in Blaine, Washington. Jón and Sigurlaug settled at Point Roberts, Washington, farmed there, and Jón worked in the summers at the Alaska Packers Association cannery. Later he was the store manager of the G. & B. Canning Company.
