Jón Elías Jóhannsson was born in Snæfellsnessýsla on March 13, 1869. He died in Vancouver on November 7, 1948. He was known as Jón E Straumfjörð in the west.
Spouse: October 24, 1895 Ingiríður Jónsdóttir b. in Mikley on June 27, 1878, d. January 21, 1948.
Children: 1. Jóhann Helgi 2. Jón Vídalín b. April 13, 1899, d. June 10, 1969.
Jón Elías’ parents were Jóhann Elíasson and Kristbjörg Jónsdóttir, early settlers in Manitoba. Ingiríður was the daughter of Jón Bjarnason and Þuríður Helgadóttir, early settlers in Mikley, Manitoba. Jón started fishing on Lake Winnipeg as a young man, farmed in the Shoal Lake settlement (Grunnavatn) area from 1902 to 1920, then settled in Lundar and lived there until 1938. Then he moved west to the Pacific Ocean and lived in Vancouver for the rest of his life.
