Jón Jósefsson was born at Melstað in New Iceland on December 17, 1881.
Spouse: December 17, 1908 Anna Erlendsdóttir b. August 16, 1885 at Akranes in Borgarfjarðarsýsla.
Children: Jón and Anna had three children who all died in infancy. They adopted 1. Snjólaug b. July 7, 1914 2. Jón Þorsteinn Leonard b. August 23, 1915. 3. María b. September 7, 1924, d. July 24, 1958 4. John Howardson. María and Jón’s father was Jón Hávarðarson, who came west from Kirkjuból in S. Múlasýsla in 1888.
Jón came west to Canada in 1876 and settled in the Árnes settlement. He bought land there and called it Skógarströnd. From there he moved to another piece of land in the settlement in 1880 which he called Melstaðir. Anna came west to Winnipeg in 1889 with her parents, Erlendur Erlendsson and Ólína Guðmundsdóttir from Borgarfjarðarsýsla.
