Jónína was the daughter of Pétur Bjarnason and Hólmfríður Jósefsdóttir, early settlers in Manitoba. Einar came west to Winnipeg in 1912 and shortly thereafter to Gimli. In 1930, he moved back to Iceland, newly married, and settled in Akranes. Jónína was unable to establish roots in Iceland, so they broke up. She disappeared after returning to the west.
