Lára Theodórsdóttir was born in Selkirk, Manitoba on December 5, 1917.
Unmarried and childless.
Lára was the daughter of Theodore Thordarson and Steinunn Sigríður Jónsdóttir in Vancouver. She was very interested in health issues from a young age and studied nursing in St. Boniface Hospital School of Nursing in 1937-40. She worked in nursing in Winnipeg 1940-41 and in Toronto from 1941 – 1948. In 1944-1948 she also taught nursing at the University of Toronto. She then moved west to the Pacific Ocean in the summer of 1948, where she worked as a nurse in a health center in Vancouver until 1954. Her travels did not end there, because that year she flew to Egypt and worked for the World Health Organization in Alexandria for two years. Then she returned to Vancouver in 1956 to continue working at the Health Centre.
