Leon graduated from Minneota High School, then studied at Aberdeen Business College in Aberdeen, S. Dakota, Minnesota School of Business and Dunwoody College in Minneapolis. In addition, he attended the Minneapolis School of Art. He was in the US Army during World War II and was stationed in Iceland for a while.
