Lillian was the daughter of Wilhelm Pálsson and Ásta Jósefsdóttir Schram at Kjarni in the Geysir settlement. Eric was the son of Haraldur Sigmar and Anna Margrethe Thorlakson. He grew up with his parents in the Lakes settlement (Vatnabyggð) in the years 1922-1926 and then in Mountain, N. Dakota 1926-1940. In 1942 he studied at the University of N. Dakota, in 1944 at Gettysburg College, and Philadelphia Lutheran Seminary in 1946. He then went to Iceland and studied at the University of Iceland in 1953-1954 and in Lundar in 1954. He was an ordained pastor and served first in the Argyle settlement in Manitoba in the years 1947-51, Hallgríms congregation in Seattle, Washington 1951-55. Finally, he served St. Stephen’s congregation at St. James in Winnipeg from 1955. He was president of the Evangelical-Lutheran Church Society of Icelanders in the West from 1956 and secretary of the society 1951-56.
