Erlendur and Margrét came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1887. He worked various jobs in the city but moved north to Sandy Bay on the western side of Lake Manitoba in 1896. From there they moved to the Big Point settlement in 1889 and arrived there in April 1898. In 1916 Erlendur sold his land in the settlement and moved to Langruth where he built a handsome residence.
