Minnie was the daughter of Guðjón Jónsson and Oddný Einarsdóttir in Winnipeg. Páll grew up in the Garðar Settlement than moved to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan in 1905, the same year as his father, Sigurjón Sveinsson. Páll took land there, but later moved and ran a hardware store in Wynyard.
