Páll came to the West in 1911 With his widowed mother, Anna Margrét Þorsteinsdóttir, and his brothers, Þorsteinn and Björgvin. They were first in Winnipeg but moved to the Lakes settlement (Vatnabyggð) in 1915 where Páll had a farm a short distance from Leslie. His mother lived with him.
