Páll Marinó Briem was born in the Fljóts Settlement in New Iceland on July 27, 1886.

Páll grew up at Grund with his parents, Jóhann Briem and Guðrún Pálsdóttir, early settlers in the Fljóts Settlement in New Iceland. He attended an agricultural and trade school in Winnipeg, then returned to the Fljóts Settlement and became a butter maker in Riverton. He was later a farmer on the family farm, Grund.
