Paul Pálsson was born in Winnipeg on November 5, 1889. He had the last name Bardal in the west.

Paul was the son of Páll Sigurgeirsson and Halldóra Björnsdóttir in Winnipeg. Paul there all his life. He went to elementary and middle school there and after graduation he became a funeral director with his cousin Arinbjörn Bardal. He was active in community affairs and was very concerned about the issues of the city’s residents. He was a member of the city council in the years 1932-1942 and was then the chairman of various committees of the city council. He was deputy mayor 1936-41. He turned to state affairs when his career in city government ended. He was elected Member of Parliament for Winnipeg in 1941-45 and 1949-53. He was always a great singer, was the singer of the men’s choir of Icelanders in the city for many years and conducted the mixed choir of his countrymen at the same time.
