Pétur was the son of Pétur Bjarnason and Hólmfríður Jósefsdóttir in the Árdals settlement in Manitoba. Kristín was the daughter of Pétur S Guðmundsson and Guðrún Benjamínsdóttir in the Árdals settlement. As a young man, Pétur moved with his father to the Swan Lake settlement (Grunnavatnsbyggð), where he, along with another young man, undertook the monumental task of purchasing the first tractor for the community. They worked together for several years thereafter, plowing the farmers’ fields. Later, he moved to Árborg in New Iceland, where he lived for a long time, but in his last years he was in Winnipeg.
