Ragnar Ágúst Stefánsson was born in Víðidal in Húnavatnssýsla on August 12, 1888. He died in Winnipeg on March 21, 1960.
Unmarried and childless
Like his brother Gunnbjörn, Ragnar followed the education path. He studied at Flensborg School in Hafnarfjörður, studied 4th and 5th grade high school with Reverend Guðmundur Einarsson in Ólafsvík in the winter of 1910-11. Became a teacher in the fall of 1911 at a junior high school in Akranes and taught for two years. In 1913 he came west to Winnipeg where he lived thereafter. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1916 and served throughout the First World War. In Winnipeg, he became a well-known actor and performed with Leikfélag Sambandssafnaðir for a few years. He wrote quite a bit of poetry, and some of his poems were published in the weekly newspapers and Tímarit. Then he translated stories that were published in Heimskringla, e.g. The Eyes of the World from 1920-24.
