Ragnar Jónsson was born in N. Múlasýsla on March 13, 1909. He took his father’s last name and is registered as Ragnar Stefánsson. He died in Iceland on April 19, 1988.

Ragnar’s parents were Jón Stefánsson and Solveig Jónsdóttir in Maryland. Ragnar came west in 1919 with his mother and started high school. Studied law in 1934-35 and 1939-40. He was enlisted in the army in 1926 until 1935. He joined the army again in 1939-40 and was in military service from January 3, 1941-September 30, 1960, much of that in Iceland. He settled in Iceland in 1961 and lived there until the end of his life. He lived in Akureyri where he taught at M.A. from 1964 and later moved with María to Hafnarfjörður. María was the daughter of Sveinbjörn Kristjánsson and Daníelína Brandsdóttir in Ísafjörður. She became a grammar school teacher there, studied in Denmark in the years 1938-40, then moved to Ísafjörður and taught at the children’s school and grammar school.
