Rósa Gísladóttir was born on May 21, 1866 in Húnavatnssýsla.

Sigurður came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba with his father, Eyjólfur Magnússon, his wife Vilborg Jónsdóttir, and siblings in 1876. Sigurður’s brother, Stefán had settled in New Iceland a year earlier and taken land for his father and his family. He called it Akranes and was in the Fljóts settlemet. Sigurður lived there until 1902, when he moved to the Víðir settlement, where he lived after that.
