They moved with a group from the sýsla to Brazil in 1873 and arrived in the port city of Parauqua on January 8, 1874. From there, the route was to Parana in the south of the country and the group settled near the city of Curitiba. There, most worked as farmers. As the turn of the century approached, unrest in the country intensified and many began to consider emigration. Quite a few then moved north to Canada.
