Sigurður came west alone across the sea in 1888 and after living a short time in Winnipeg, Manitoba moved to N. Dakota. He started farming in Upham in 1901 and lived there on his land until 1924, but then moved to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan and settled in Wynyard. From there, the road led back to N. Dakota in 1942. Sigríður Lára was the daughter of Jón Jónsson Freeman and Helga Jakobína Ólafsdóttir. Sigríður lived his last years in Portland, Oregon.
