Sigurbjörn Jónsson was born on November 22, 1879 in N. Þingeyjarsýsla. He died in the Lundar settlement in 1964. He took the last name Freeman in the west.

Sigurbjörn came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1890 while his parents, Jón Frímann Kristjánsson and Kristín Jónsdóttir, had arrived a year earlier. They lived in New Iceland. Sigurbjörn and Þóra took land in the Lundar settlement in 1910 and lived there until 1939 when they moved to Lundar.
