Valgerður b. April 5, 1882 in the Pembina settlement, N. Dakota 8. Margrét b. April 10, 1887. Jónína had three sons with her first husband: Brynjólf b. in Iceland, Þórarinn Hjört b. July 29, 1889 in Mikley, and Ágúst b. in Mikley. One daughter, Vilborg came west with her parents.

Sigurður and Valgerður came west in 1876 to Winnipeg, Manitoba and went directly to New Iceland. They lived there until 1880 then moved south to Pembina, N. Dakota. From there they moved west to Victoria, British Columbia in 1887 and lived there for a while but then moved in 1894 to Point Roberts peninsula in Washington. They were there for a number of years before returning to Victoria. Sigurður moved in 1914 to Point Roberts and lived there the rest of his life. Jónína came west in 1887 with her husband, Ámund Gíslason. They settled in New Iceland.
