Sigfús came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba with his parents, Sigurður Erlendsson and Guðrún Eiríksdóttir, in 1876. They stayed in Gimli for the first year, but then went north to Mikley. Sigurlaug came west with her parents, Jón Frímann Kristjánsson and Kristína Jónsdóttir, in 1889. Sigfús and Sigurlaug moved to the Lundar settlement in 1902 and took land near Otto. They lived there until 1936 when they moved to Oak Point.
