Sigurlaug came to the West in 1876 with his parents, Sveinbjörn Jóhannesson and Þorbjörg Eiríksdóttir. They first lived in Nova Scotia but in 1880 they went to N. Dakota where Sveinbjörn took land northeast of Mountain. Sigurlaug’s parents arrived there from New Iceland around 1880.
