Friðfinnur was the son of Jón Friðfinnsson, composer, and Anna Sigríður Jónsdóttir in Winnipeg. He was a tinsmith in Winnipeg but was also a farmer in Manitoba, first near Clarkleigh, then Vestfold, and lastly near Oak Point. Friðfinnur went to Winnipeg every year, where he sometimes worked at his trade. Stefanía was the daughter of Andrés Jónsson Skagfeld and his second wife, Steinunn Þorsteinsdóttir.
