Steinunn came to the West in 1889 with her parents, Jón Jóhannes Jónsson and Solveig Grímólfsdóttir. They settled in Mikley. Theodore was the son of Þórður Tómas Þórðarson and Arnfríður Magnúsdóttir, who came west to Manitoba in 1900. They were first in Gimli and later in Selkirk. Theodor lived with them in both places, but then in 1905 went to Mikley where he learned carpentry. He lived on the island until 1921 and did fishing and carpentry. He was in Selkirk after that until 1943 and then Winnipeg until 1948. That year he went west to the Pacific coast and lived in Vancouver.
