Þóra Rósa Sigurðardóttir was born in Húnavatnssýsla on December 30, 1874. She died on May 10, 1956. She had the last name Laxdal in the west.

Þóra came west in 1888 with her parents, Sigurður Sigurðsson and María Guðmundsdóttir, early settlers in the Garðar settlement in N. Dakota. Jóel was the son of Sigurbjörn Sigurðsson and Oktavía Jónsdóttir and came west with them in 1894. He lived with them in N. Dakota but in 1907 moved to the Lakes settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan. He was a farmer a short distance from Mozart. In his later years, he lived in Gladstone, Manitoba.
