Þórarinn Guðlaugsson was born on September 23, 1857 in Snæfellsnessýsla. He died in the Lundar settlement on January 5, 1939. He took the name Thorarinn Breckman in the west. The name is derived from Klungurbrekka in the Skógarstrandarhreppur.

Spouse: 1889 Halldóra Þorbjörg Einvarðsdóttir b. in Mýrasýsla on August 21, 1867, d. January 19, 1938.

Children: 1. Einvarður (Ed) b. in Winnipeg on February 9, 1889  2. Karitas Kristný b. in Winnipeg on June 10, 1897  3. Halldór Kristinn b. 1901 4. Guðlaugur Magnús b. August 17, 1900.

Þórarinn went west to Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1883 with his widowed mother, Karítas Guðmundsdóttir, and siblings. They lived in the city for the first few years. Þórarinn participated in the Indian uprising in western Canada in 1885 and was responsible for transporting supplies to the soldiers. He and Halldóra moved to the Lundar settlement in 1899 and lived there.
