Þorbjörg Kristjánsdóttir was born in Eyjafjarðarsýsla on September 18, 1866. She died on June 19, 1948 in Gimli, Manitoba.

Kristján came to the West in 1876 with his parents, Pétur Pálsson and Guðrún Jónsdóttir, and siblings. The family went to New Iceland and Kristján first lived with his parents there. He moved to Winnipeg and worked various jobs but then became a fisherman on Lake Winnipeg. Þorbjörg came to the West on the same ship as Kristján and her parents, Kristján Kærnested and Sigurlaug Sæmundsdóttir. Kristján and Þorbjörg lived in Gimli but after her death, Kristján lived with their son in Winnipeg.
