Laufey’s parents were Jörundur Hergeir Daníelsson and Kristjana Margrét Kristjánsdóttir in the Shoal Lake settlement (Grunnavatnsbyggð). Þorvaldur earned a degree in electrical engineering, worked in Winnipeg and later became an inspector at Manitoba Hydro Co.
