Valgerður came to the West after 1880. Stefán came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba with his parents and siblings in 1876 and the family moved to Mikley in New Iceland. Stefán and Valgerður lived in the Hnausa settlement from 1890 where Stefán had a profitable business for many years.
