Ásta was the daughter of Jósef Jóhannsson and Kristín Jónasdóttir, settlers in the Geysir settlement in New Iceland in 1901. Wilhelm’s parents were Páll Jónsson and Sigríður Lárusdóttir who lived at Kjarni in the Geysir settlement. Ásta and Wilhelm lived all their lives in the community, where Wilhelm took over the farming at Kjarni when his father retired in 1936.
