Kristveig came west in 1879 with her parents, Jón Frímann Kristjánsson and Kristín Jónsdóttir. Sigurbjörn and Kristveig built a log house by the Icelandic River (Íslendingafljót) north of Riverton. It was called Bjarkarvellir. In 1910 they moved to the Lundar Settlement and settled near Otto. Sigurbjörn came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1879 with his parents, Benedikt Kristjánsson and Hólmfríður Kristjánsdóttir. They settled in New Iceland and that is where Sigurbjörn grew up.
