Elín was the only child of Oscar Tryggvi Johnson og Eliza Margarida Isfeld in Climax, Saskatschewan. Elín chose education and attended the University in Saskatoon. She completed both B.A. and B.S.P degrees. From there she moved to California and studied some more at Pacific University in Stokton 1966-67. There she added another B.S.P. degree.
