Jón Björnsson was born in Gimli, New Iceland on June 19, 1878. He died in Saskatchewan on July 12, 1945. He took the name Jon B. Jonsson in the west.
Spouse: 1903 Stefía Sigríður Stefánsdóttir b. in Minnesota on April 15, 1880.
Children: No information on their children, but they raised Pálína Johnson b. June 19, 1908 who was the daughter of Jón’s brother, Kristján Jónsson, and a boy named Hallgrímur.
Jón was the son of Björn Jónsson and Þorbjörg Björnsdóttir who came west to Canada in 1876. They settled in New Iceland. Stefía was the daughter of Stefán Guðni Sigurðsson and Sigríður Jóakimsdóttir, early settlers in Minnesota.
Jón and Stefía moved to the Argyle Settlement from Minnesota in 1903 and then to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan in 1907. They bought land in the Kandahar/Dafoe settlement.
