Eiríkur Björnsson was born on January 26, 1851 in N. Múlasýsla. He died in Arborg, Manitoba on November 16, 1936.

They came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1904, while their daughter Aðalbjörg had settled there in 1902. They lived in the city for the first few years and supported their son Sveinn during his medical studies. They later moved to Arborg where Sveinn was a doctor in the years 1919-1945. Jóna Marion, Sveinn’s daughter, describes her grandfather in an article in A Century Unfolds, she says he was a poetry-loving gentleman, who in the summer enjoyed tending the vegetation around his son’s (Sveinn) house in Arborg, trimming shrubs and mowing grass.
