Þórstína Sigríður Eggertsdóttir was born in N. Dakota in 1883. She died in the Akra Settlement in 1951. She had the name Thorstina Sigridur Gunnlaugson in the west.

Guðmundur came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1887 with his father, Sigurður Guðmundsson. Þórstína was the daughter of Eggert Gunnlaugsson and Rannveig Rögnvaldsdóttir, pioneers in the Akra Settlement in N. Dakota. She and Guðmundur lived there the rest of their lives!
