Magnús was the son of Magnús Egilsson and Halldóra Einarsdóttir of Miklaholtshreppur in Snæfellsnessýsla. He came west in 1876 to New Iceland and Sigurdríf arrived there with son Albert Vigfússon the same year. They moved from there to Winnipeg in 1883 and in 1902 they moved west to Tacoma, Washington.
