Albert Ólafsson was born on March 9, 1869 in N. Múlasýsla. He took the name Albert W. Johnson in the west.

Albert emigrated west to Minnesota with his parents, Ólafur Jónsson and Elín Eyjólfsdóttir, in 1878. They lived in the Lincoln County Settlement. Just before 1920, Albert and his wife lived in Minneota. They moved west to the Pacific coast and lived there for two years before moving to Manitoba and settling in the Cypress Settlement. Sigríður came west to Minnesota with her parents, Jón Eyjólfsson and María Jónsdóttir, in 1883.
