They emigrated west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1884 and went straight-away to the Thingvalla Settlement in N. Dakota. They settled on land owned by Guðmundur, Björn’s brother. In 1888, Björn bought land owned by Jón Jónasson and his wife, Guðný Sigurðardóttir.
