Ágúst emigrated to Manitoba in 1894 with his parents, Grímur Jóhannesson and Júlíana R Benediktsdóttir. They settled in Ísafold Settlement in New Iceland and later in the Grunnavatn Settlement (Shoal Lake) in Manitoba . Ágúst and his family lived there until 1916 when the family moved west to Washington where Ágúst bought land skammt near Blaine. They lived there until 1925 when they traded their land for a house in Blaine where they lived after that.
