Björn Sigvaldason, Valgerður’s son with her first husband, came west to Canada in 1874. He was first in Kinmount, Ontario, later in Markland, Nova Scotia, and lastly in the Argyle Settlement in Manitoba after 1880. He sent his mother and stepfather money to come west to him. They moved there in 1888 and lived with Björn and his family. Later, when Páll, their son, had settled down in the village, they moved in with him.
