Guðmundur was the son of Kristján Eggertsson Fjeldsted and Guðbjörg Jónsdóttir in Lundar. Anna Fjóla was the daughter of Snæbjörn Jónasson Halldórsson and Guðný Sveinbjörnsdóttir in the Lundar settlement. Guðmundur worked in agriculture and also fished. He later became supervisor of the road construction machinery in the settlement.
