Anna Guðrún Timotheusdóttir was born on February 6, 1896 in Garðar, N. Dakota.

Anna was the daughter of Timoteus Guðmundsson and Þorbjörg Hallgrímsdóttir in the Lakes settlement (Vatnabyggð). Þórður was the son of Ásgeir Þórðarson and Ólína Bergljót Guðmundsdóttir who came west in 1910. The family settled in Winnipeg where Þórður worked as a carpenter. He was in the Canadian army from 1916-1919, married, and moved to the Lakes settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan and began farming near Mozart. He was very involved in community organizations, a member of cooperatives, a wheat cooperative and a trade association.
