Anna Jónsdóttir was born in Eyjafjarðarsýsla in 1853. She died in the Geysir settlement in 1933. She took the last name Thordarson in the west.
Spouse: 1889 Sigurjón Þórðarson b. in Eyjafjarðarsýsla in 1867, d. at Nýhaga 1959.
Children: 1. Þórey b. 1889 2. Ólafur Tryggvi b. 1893 3. Signý Rósbjörg b. in Geysir settlement, d. 1944 4. Jóhannes b. February 4, 1897 in Geysir settlement.
They came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1893 and went to the Geysir settlement where Anna’s sister Björg and her husband lived at Blómsturvellir. Sigurjón then took land in the settlement three years later in the same area and named it Nýhaga. There was little farming in the early years, a few chickens and a few cows. After 1910, Sigurjón fished on Lake Winnipeg, going out in the fall and returning in mid-winter. Little by little, the family’s fortune improved, a railway was laid to Árborg and then it was possible to raise prices for forest products.
