Anna Margrét Tærgesen was born on April 24, 1889 in Gimli, New Iceland.

Anna Margrét was the daughter of Pétur Tærgasen and Sigríðar Pálsdóttir who came west to New Iceland in 1887. Einar was the son of Einar Jónasson and Jónína Ingibjörg Sigfúsdóttir who lived in N. Dakota. They moved west to Alberta, Canada in 1888 and lived there until 1899 when they moved to Gimli. Their son Einar finished high school at Gimli and then held various positions at Gimli. He was the town clerk, the school councilor and finally the mayor.
