Árni emigrated west to Minnesota in 1879 with his parents, Björn Gíslason and Aðalbjörg Jónsdóttir. They settled in Lyon County. Árni went to school and became a lawyer. He was a district court judge for twenty years. Cora was the daughter of Þóroddur Sigurðsson and Anna Björnsdóttir, and Solveig’s parents were Grímur Þórðarson and Ingibjörg Snæbjörnsdóttir.
